Master the Sequel: If It Works, Do It Again
What do Hocus Pocus 2, Top Gun: Maverick, and building a satisfying life have in common?
They all hit repeat on what’s working.
Recently I was working with a client who found herself in a rut. She’d implemented changes over the summer that she was really happy with, but in recent weeks, many of those changes had fallen off.
You know how it is. Maybe the kids get sick or you catch a cold that you just can’t shake. You have a huge project coming due at work and your best friend is going through a hard time and needs extra support.
So some habits start to slip and then you start to feel the ill effects and you don’t know where to start to crawl out and reset.
Except — you do! You do know. You just might not know that you know.
What worked for you in the past?
Last time you held a boundary, what helped you do that?
What about when you were able to put your phone down and go to sleep rather than doom scrolling into the wee hours?
Or when you were putting in time on the project that lights your soul up?
We’re so often drawn to finding a shiny new answer, a quick fix, that we forget that we already know what to do to get the results we want.
So: where are you feeling stuck or dissatisfied? What did it look like last time this area of your life felt the way you wanted it to? Try that.
And don’t talk yourself out of it because your previous success was brief. All you need is a toehold.
I’m not saying it’s always easy. But it is often simple.
If you’re still having trouble getting purchase, you may benefit from having someone help you sort through what’s getting in your way and develop an action plan. That’s the work that lights my soul up, and I’d love to talk with you.
