What’s your One Thing for 2025?

Over the holidays, I really unplugged.

No Instagram. No emails. Lots of actually being present with my kids, lots of cleaning out my house, lots of space to reflect on how I wanted work to feel this year.

Energized. Effective. Spacious. Delighted.

Taking a break helped me tune into just how noisy my life had gotten, all the information I was taking in and attempting to filter and integrate every day.

As we kick off 2025, I’m resisting the urge to build an elaborate business plan (which I never follow anyway, to be honest), and instead I’m asking myself: What’s the One Thing that will make the biggest difference in my work this year?

Last year was all about getting crystal clear on my mission and message. I stopped trying to serve everyone and owned my love of helping entrepreneurs build aligned, energy-filled businesses. Once I did, everything clicked: I was able to channel programs that serve my clients, attract the right people, and have work that was more fulfilling than ever.

I want more of that!

So this year, I’m focusing on spreading my message far and wide—helping more entrepreneurs reclaim their energy while growing thriving businesses. I’m imaging myself as a buzzy little pollinator, visiting beautiful spaces and helping things grow.

To support this One Thing, I have a bold goal of 52 guest speaking / teaching / writing opportunities for the year, so if you know of a podcast, group, or publication that would be a good fit (maybe you host one??), I’d love to hear about it!

💡Now it’s your turn: What’s your One Thing?

Consider this: what one focus would make the biggest difference in your business right now? For some of my clients, it’s refining their messaging or launching an offer they’ve been dreaming about. For others, it’s building their client base or streamlining their systems to create more ease and energy. For still others, it’s hiring help so they can get draining tasks off their plate.

How to Find Your One Thing

1: Reflect on Your Current Business Landscape

Take 5–10 minutes to sit with the following questions:

  • What’s working well in your business right now? (This could be a steady flow of clients, knowing that you’re doing the exact tight work, a popular offer, or great engagement on a platform.)

  • What feels stuck or frustrating? (Think about tasks you dread, areas where growth has stalled, or ideas that keep nagging at you but aren’t moving forward.)

  • What’s one area you’ve been avoiding that might make a big difference if you gave it attention?

Write down your answers to get a clear sense of your starting point.

2: Identify the Area of Greatest Impact

Ask yourself:

  • If I could wave a magic wand and fix one thing in my business, what would it be?

  • What single change would make everything else easier or more effective?

  • Where am I leaking energy—spending time or effort on things that don’t feel aligned or productive?

The goal here isn’t to tackle everything. It’s to pinpoint the area that would create a ripple effect, freeing up energy or resources that can fuel other aspects of your business.

3: Narrow It Down

Now that you have a few ideas, ask these clarifying questions to decide what to focus on:

  • Does this feel exciting? Your One Thing should light you up. If it feels like a slog just thinking about it, consider whether it’s truly aligned or if it can be delegated.

  • Does this align with my long-term goals? Focus on the action that moves you closer to your vision.

  • Will this create meaningful progress in the next 30–90 days? Your One Thing doesn’t have to solve everything, but you should be able to make notable progress in the next three months.

4: Commit

Write your One Thing down. Keep it visible—on a sticky note near your desk, as your phone wallpaper, on your vision board, or in your planner.

Examples:

  • “I’m refining my messaging so I can confidently communicate my value.”

  • “I’m pitching myself to three podcasts this month to expand my audience.”

  • “I’m creating and launching my first group program by the end of the quarter.”

  • “I’m setting up a system for consistent social media posts so I stop wasting energy starting from scratch each week.”

5: Break It Into Actionable Steps

Once you’ve chosen your One Thing, break it into bite-sized tasks you can work on daily or weekly – and protect time to actually do it. For example:

  • One Thing: Refine your messaging.

    • Step 1: Identify who you want to serve and what problem you solve.

    • Step 2: Write three sentences that articulate your core message.

    • Step 3: Update your website and social media bios to reflect this clarity.

6: Evaluate and Adjust

Set a calendar reminder to check in after 30 days. Are you making progress? Do you feel more aligned and energized? If your One Thing isn’t having the desired impact, reassess and pivot to the next area of focus.

Pro Tip: Pair this process with journaling or voice notes from your future self. Imagine it’s 6 months from now, and you’ve accomplished your One Thing. How do you feel? What’s different in your business?
